Our youth ministry partners with parents—the primary disciple-makers for their children—to equip the next generation to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ.

Because the church is always one generation away from losing its grip on the gospel, we prioritize investing in our youth to ensure they develop a personal, lasting faith in Jesus Christ.

OUR CORE VALUES

Recognizing adolescence as a temporary yet pivotal season, our mission is to help teenagers become wise, godly, service-oriented adults deeply rooted in the gospel, and who will remain faithful to Jesus Christ for the rest of their lives.

Get Wisdom

We prioritize knowing the Bible, the Word of God, and knowing Jesus, the Word. We also encourage teens to humbly seek counsel from parents, pastors, and other mature believers in our body, avoiding the folly of being "wise in their own eyes" (Proverbs 3:7).

Grow in Godliness

We strive to be "doers of the word, not hearers only" (James 1:22). Through spiritual disciplines—such as prayer, worship, and reading Scripture—we train ourselves for godliness, which holds value for this life and the life to come (1 Timothy 4:7-8).

Go Serve

We actively seek opportunities to serve, recognizing that God has sovereignly placed each teen in their specific context. Whether in the home, the church, or the community of Midland, we aim to use our time and talents to serve the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24).

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about SGCY and what you can expect when you visit us!

When & Where does SGCY meet?

We usually meet every other Friday night throughout the school year from 6:30-9:00p in the Sovereign Grace Church Fellowship Hall. Check out our CHURCH CALENDAR to see our upcoming meetings.

What ages participate in SGCY?

SGCY is for youth ages 12-18, (6th-12th graders), but we also encourage parents to join us for our Friday night gatherings. We operate on the biblical conviction that parents are the primary disciple-makers of their children, commanded to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Our pastoral role is to come alongside parents, equipping them for this crucial work of ministry. We aim to foster an environment where parents and teens are integrated, encouraging family-based discipleship that extends beyond our Friday night meetings.

Who can I contact with questions about the SGCY?

Our Youth Pastor, Erik Schmaltz! He'd love to meet you and answer any questions you may have about getting involved. You can contact him at erik@sgcmidland.org.

What can I expect at an SGCY meeting?

Our Friday night Y&P (Youth & Parent) Meetings are designed to prioritize our core values of 1) Getting Wisdom, 2) Growing in Godliness, and 3) Going to Serve (see above descriptions). On any particular night, you'll find us eating pizza, singing, playing games, hearing God's word taught, fellowshiping with one another as we discuss and apply God's word, and praying together. We'd love for you to join us!
